南京大学配位化学国家重点实验室于1988年在南京大学配位化学研究所的基础上建立起来，1990年起向国内外开放，1991年通过国家验收。实验室为无机化学博士学位授予单位，并设有无机化学博士后流动站。实验室立足于基础研究工作，主要学术方向是与材料科学和生命科学密切相关的功能配合物化学、生物无机化学和固体无机化学。
