日前，俄罗斯政府批准拨款130亿卢布用于库尔恰托夫同步加速器的现代化升级。今年计划完成所有设计工作，2025年将升级后的装置投入运营。升级后的加速器属于第三代同步加速器。据俄库尔恰托夫科学中心介绍，在对加速器的现代化升级过程中，加速器存储系统内的所有原件将被替换；升级后的加速器可产生2.5吉电子伏特的能量，可以进行更长期的实验。
