西班牙科学家经过研究首次确定了植物区分磷酸盐和砷化合物的分子机理。磷酸盐是植物生长必需的营养素，而砷常以砷酸盐形式存在于土壤中，极易进入植物细胞，一旦进入就会转化成亚砷酸盐，毒性比砷酸盐还大，是致癌物。磷酸盐和砷酸盐分子结构极其相似，但是植物却能有效区分，吸收代谢磷酸盐等有益营养素，同时阻止坤酸盐等有害物质进入。
