据日本《朝日新闻》2008年5月18日报道，在北海道大学攻读博士学位的牧口祐也等人在2007年11月鲑鱼繁殖季节进行了实验。研究人员在鲑鱼身上安装了小型检测装置后，把它们放回水槽，用摄像机拍摄鲑鱼产卵的过程，并分析5条雄鲑鱼和9条雌鲑鱼的心电图和拍下的画面。
