教育部科技发展中心2007年3月9日报道 美国研究全球变暖的科学家们目前正在研究高山冰川上天然形成的冰林，并且创建了12英尺高的冰林的微型实验室版本。美国科罗拉多大学Boulder分校的助理教授Meredith Betterton表示：这些冰雪铸成的钉子被称为“penitentes”，它们可能有助于科学家们减缓安第斯山脉的全球变暖效应。

两名洞穴潜水爱好者2007年3月5日宣布，他们在墨西哥尤卡坦半岛发现多条水下通道，足以构成世界最长水下洞穴系统。英国洞穴潜水爱好者史蒂夫·博盖尔特说，潜水证实了“大鸟笼”洞穴与“白笼”洞穴系统之间存在联系。这两个洞穴系统长度共计153公里。
