随着研究人员报告说他们发现了一种分子，能够在实验室小鼠体内抑制胰岛素的分解，一种长期寻找的糖尿病治疗方法正在成为人们的焦点。Ⅱ型糖尿病患者摄入糖分后，胰岛素不能有效降低血糖。这主要是因为其体内胰岛素水平偏低或与受体结合不足，不能充分发挥作用。传统的治疗方法效果并不明显。医学界一直在寻找能适当抑制胰岛素降解酶、使胰岛素维持正常水平的物质，但鲜有进展。
