上海外国语大学德语系建立于1956年，拥有一支优秀的师资队伍，教学与科研力量均十分强大，出版了一大批高水准的学术专著，为国家培养出众多高级德语专业人才。德语系目前有教师16名，其中博士生导师2名，教授3名，副教授4名，6人获德国、瑞士和我国大学博士学位。该系另设德语语言文学硕士点和博士点，是北京地区以外中国唯一的德语语言文学博士学位授予点。
